About Us

A Home for Faith and Heritage
St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is a vibrant community of faith located in Southfield, Michigan. As part of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago, we serve as a spiritual “home away from home” for the Kerala Catholic diaspora. Our parish is a place where ancient traditions meet modern lives, and where every generation is empowered to live deeply rooted in the love of Jesus Christ.

Our Apostolic Roots
We are heirs to a 2,000-year-old legacy. Our community belongs to the Syro-Malabar Church, one of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome. Our roots trace back to St. Thomas the Apostle, who arrived in India in A.D. 52.
Today, we preserve this unique identity through the Syro-Malabar Rite, celebrating the Holy Qurbana in both Malayalam and English. This bilingual approach ensures that our liturgy remains accessible and meaningful for our children and youth born and raised in the United States.

Our Life Together
Beyond our Sunday celebrations, our parish is a hub of activity and service. From the faith formation of our children in the CCD program to our various ministries and cultural celebrations, we strive to build a community that reflects the hospitality and joy of the Gospel.
Whether you have been part of the Detroit Syro-Malabar community for decades or are visiting for the first time, there is a place for you here.
